Bey, 39, shared a baby photo of Britney for her 39th birthday, adding: ‘Happy Birthday Britney Spears’ in a banner at the top of her site to mark the occasion.
While many wouldn’t have expected these two to have such a close friendship (a shout-out from Queen Bey is pretty huge), it turns out that Britney and Beyonce do in fact go way back.
The pair have shown support for each other over the years too, with Beyonce and Jay Z being spotted in the audience of Britney’s Piece Of Me residency in Las Vegas in 2015.
Britney also tweeted about looking up to Beyonce in 2017, writing: ‘Madonna & Beyonce… 2 of the many women who inspire me. Always fierce throughout their careers. Thank you for being amazing.’
Britney also revealed she was a fan of Bey’s 2016 album Lemonade, telling NME at the time: ‘I just listened to Lemonade. I’m a little late on that, but it’s good, really angry, a really hardcore album.
‘Generally, I like songs that are bit different and I like moody stuff. There are moments where you feel the light, airy Beyoncé, but most of the time it almost feels like a therapy album. I respect that.’
As well as her message from Beyonce, Britney marked her birthday by releasing a new song, Swimming In The Stars on Wednesday, a previously unheard outtake from her 2016 album Glory.
The new song led fans to hope that more music – and live shows – could be on the horizon in the future, with Britney’s last concert having taken place in October 2018.
It comes after her lawyers filed documents in court to ask for her father, Jamie Spears, to be removed as co-conservator of her estate, meaning he would no longer have control of her life and career, which he has held since 2008.
During a court hearing on November 10, Britney’s lawyer Samuel D. Ingham III said: “[My client] stated that she will not perform as long as her father is in charge of her career. We are really at a crossroads.’
Judge Brenda Penny decided not to suspend Jamie as co-conservator at the hearing, but added that it can be further discussed ‘down the road’.
She said: ‘Hi, so I know that there have been a lot of comments, and a lot of people saying a lot of different things about me.
‘But I just want to let you guys know that I am fine. I’m the happiest I’ve ever been in my life. And I’m sending all of you guys a lot of prayers, wishes and a lot of love.’
