UFC Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell spoke to Fight Hype.com and spoke out on the Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr. showdown. The former champion is just as excited as everyone else to see the heavyweight icons clash. What’s more, the bout marks Mike Tyson’s return to the sport after stepping away for over 15 years. He last fought back in 2005 and lost his bout on the stool against Kevin McBride.
Roy Jones Jr.’s lay-off hasn’t been quite as long and he last fought back in 2018. Despite the fact that both men are in their 50’s, they appear to be in excellent shape. The combat sports world is excited to see the high-paced pressure that they’re expected to bring.

The aforementioned exhibition bout has several regulations placed on in when considering the age of the fighters. When the fight was announced, it was expected that both legends would wear headgear to the ring. Since then, however, several changes have taken place. Moreover, fans have lost track of the various amendments to the final rules.
Chuck Liddle chimed in on the fact that both icons aren’t supposed to search for the knockout blow. The bout is being touted as an exhibition sparring match and the fight could be stopped on account of a cut. However, ‘The Iceman’ isn’t buying the notion that Tyson and Jones Jr will go easy on each other.
Liddell also went on to share his pick for the winner in Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr.
“We’re fighters, you can’t get us in there and [say] go out and spar in front of everybody. I’m telling them it’s a fight, I’m fighting. You don’t protect yourself with either one of those guys, it’s a knockout. You can’t tell guys ‘don’t hit him hard, hit him a little hard, not real hard’, come on! They’re gonna take each other’s heads off.”
“I’m with Tyson on this one, sorry Roy.”
Furthermore, both men have had violent KO’s sprinkled out throughout their career and it’s easy to see why a knockout is expected. Mike Tyson has gone on record to say that he is looking to violently finish Roy Jones Jr from the moment the bell rings. It seems as though we could have ourselves a ‘Legends Only’ firefight come Fight Night.
