The Prime Minister and the Chancellor of the Exchequer have been pinged as Covid close contacts, and have reversed an earlier decision not to self-isolate amid widespread criticism that there is "one rule for them".
Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak have been contacted by NHS Test and Trace as contacts of someone who has tested positive for Covid and had initially decided to participate in a daily contact testing pilot to allow them to continue to work from Downing Street.
Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick was sent to face the cameras on Sunday morning to defend that decision.
However, Mr Johnson and Mr Sunak have now reversed course, with Mr Sunak posting on Twitter that he recognises that "the sense that the rules aren’t the same for everyone is wrong" and a Downing Street spokesman confirming that Mr Johnson will isolate at Chequers.
It comes after Health Secretary Sajid Javid announced he was self-isolating having picked up the virus despite being double vaccinated.
