With the Brooklyn Nets identified as one of James Harden’s preferred destinations, a potential Big 3 of Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and Harden has sent shivers down the collective spine of the rest of the league. For Hall of Famer Charles Barkley, however, he hopes that the Houston Rockets do end up trading Harden to the Nets — but for a very different reason.
Barkley admitted that his wish to see Harden make the move to Brooklyn is fueled by his desire to see this trio implode from the inside:
“I want to see James, KD and Kyrie together with that New York media. That’s just my dream scenario… I want that more than anything in the world,” Barkley said Harden and the Nets, via Nick Friar of Yahoo Sports. “Because, you guys know, all three of those guys are — No. 1, I don’t know any of them really well. I think they’re all three good guys, but I think they’ve all three got some issues. I cannot wait to see those three play together. I think it would be fascinating because all three of them need the ball and want the ball, and I just don’t think it would work. But I want to see it because I want to see it implode.”
That’s not very nice, Chuck. Then again, he isn’t completely wrong here.
Durant and Irving have yet to take the floor together (for the regular season, at least), and at this point, it remains a mystery how these two ball-dominant superstars will be able to coexist on the Nets together. They are very good friends, though, so this should certainly help their cause.
Once you bring in James Harden, however, that could complicate things. As of right now, though, there’s no trade imminent, as the Rockets reportedly don’t have much interest in what the Nets have to offer.
