Matthew Ramsey is the lead singer of the hit making country band, Old Dominion, but he’s stepping out on his own for a special holiday track, sharing “It’s Christmas and We’re Still Here.”

A comforting Christmas ballad with a warm and cozy sound, the track looks at the biggest day of the year in a big-picture way. With a classic acoustic arrangement and a splash of sparkle behind him, Ramsey sings of the tough situation 2020 has been — but celebrates our resilience, our diversity and the spirit of coming together. He basically sings, “Yeah, everything is different. But we’ve made it this far, and that’s worth appreciating.”

The track may find Ramsey “going solo” for the first time since Old Dominion since the band broke out in 2015, but it’s all abut giving back to the people he loves. Proceeds from the song will benefit the arts-education focused My Hometown Fund — a charity fund held by The Community Foundation serving Western Virginia, created by Matthew and his wife Sara.

“I created this fund to help support rural communities like the one I grew up in,” Ramsey says of the project. “By working with non-profit organizations, we are able to bring music, art, and basic needs to areas where such opportunities are hard to come by.”

“I hope that secret Santa’s got it in his plans/To help us put our pride and differences aside/And share a little cheer/Before the chance disappears/’Cuz hey, it’s Christmas and we’re still here,” goes the song’s chorus.

Old Dominion recently took fans Behind the Curtain of their hit songwriting in a special EP and video project, and also scored a pair of Grammy nominations for their current single, “Some People Do.” The band are up for Best Duo/Group Country Performance and Ramsey is up for Best Country Song as one of the tune’s writers. The Grammys will air on January 31 on CBS.
