WandaVision has paid homage to some of the most iconic sitcoms of all time so far in its first series, and the latest episode of the Disney Plus show has people nostalgic for Malcolm in the Middle.

The Marvel show continued in its journey through comedies throughout the ages this week, and the sixth episode revisited the look and feel of shows from the 90s and 00s.

WandaVision ditched its laughter track and brought viewers an introductory sequence that looked very similar to the instantly recognisable intro to Malcolm in the Middle.

So far the show has paid tributes to everything from the The Dick Van Dyke Show to Bewitched and 80s classics like Family Ties.

But the most recent episode really struck a chord with fans, as viewers reminisced about the show.

As 00s kids will remember, Malcolm in the Middle based around a dysfunctional America family ran from 2000 to 2006 and starred the likes of Bryan Cranston, Jane Kaczmarek and Frankie Muniz.

It was one of the biggest cult hits of the time, and WandaVision seemed to reference the show in its latest episode.

As well as the theme song, Wanda and Vision’s children spoke directly to the camera, while their superhero parents seemed very amorous when not engaged with the family.

Fans took to social media in numbers after the latest WandaVision episode aired to note the homage.

‘Am I watching #WandaVision or Malcolm in the Middle?’ one fan wrote.

Another said: ‘As a 90s kid I can say that the late 90s early 2000s Malcolm in the Middle vibe on #WandaVision was on point.’

Which comedies will they pay tribute to next? We can’t wait to find out.

Meanwhile, Marvel appears to have dropped an actor who revealed a major WandaVision surprise.

A recent episode of the highly anticipated Disney+ series finished on a huge twist, but a large number of fans already knew what was coming after the big moment was reported online last month.

WandaVision is available to watch on Disney Plus
